Sep-iSYS™ Cyclonic Sand Removal System

Benefit of the Technology
  • Consistently high sand removal efficiency irrespective of flowing conditions and flow regime;
  • High liquid turndown capacity and automatic adjustment to turndown conditions; and
  • Dampens flow surges and slug flow, providing stable flow conditions at system outlet.

Description of the Technology

The SEP-iSYSTM CSRS is a compact and high performance sand removal system. The system’s novelty lies in its ability to sustain a high solids removal efficiency within a conventional cyclonic desander irrespective of prevailing wellstream conditions, particularly during high liquid turndown conditions, while at the same time being more compact than conventional setups.

The key to its enhanced and sustained performance is the integration of a flow stabiliser and a differential pressure control valve onto a hydrocyclone desander. These additional features desensitizes the hydrocyclone desander from the multiphase, unsteady and intermittent wellstream conditions and ensures that the hydrocyclone desander only processes a single fluidic phase with a fixed pressure drop.

This is vital as hydrocyclones are constant condition devices that are traditionally designed to handle a predominately single fluidic phase at a fixed pressure drop. Due to its unique configuration, the system also has an automatic turndown capability that is able to handle wellstream turndowns of up to 10% of its design capacity. In summary, the main features of the system includes bulk gas/liquid separation with minor slug handling and flow stabilization, high sand removal efficiency, low and fixed pressure drop, high turndown limit and steady & stable flow to downstream system as well as small system footprint and minimal instrumentation.
