Malaysia Pavilion at OTC Houston: Over 15 Multinational OGSE Companies Keen To Set Up Regional Base in Malaysia

Houston, USA, 5 May, 2017—Over 15 multinational oil & gas services and equipment (OGSE)  companies have expressed interest in establishing their regional headquarters in Malaysia in the next few years, capping off a successful showcase of Malaysian OGSE expertise at the Malaysia Pavilion in Offshore Technology Conference Houston during May 1-4, 2017.

“With Malaysia’s highly diversified economy, developed infrastructure and connectivity, MNCs can easily optimise their businesses and grow in Asia Pacific from their base in Malaysia,” Syed Azlan Syed Ibrahim, Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) said. “Using Malaysia as the MNCs’ base also serves as an opportunity for them to forge strategic alliances with Malaysian OGSE firms in facilitating their growth plans in Asia. This is in line with MPRC vision of positioning Malaysia as the oil and gas hub of Asia Pacific region.”

The interest by global OGSE companies came on the heels of a ‘Grow in Asia from Malaysia for the Oil & Gas Sector’ briefing hosted by InvestKL. The briefing included 20 global OGSE MNCs and participation by representatives from MPRC, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), PETRONAS, and InvestKL CEO Datuk Zainal Amanshah.

“The interest by global OGSE MNCs is also a testament to the key objectives of the Malaysia Pavilion, which is to market and represent Malaysia as an investment destination for OGSEs as well as to promote the capabilities of Malaysian oil and gas companies into global markets,” Syed Azlan said. The Malaysia Pavilion, themed ‘Grow in Asia from Malaysia’, is a collaboration between MPRC and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). Co-hosted by MPRC's Syed Azlan
and MATRADE CEO Dr Shahreen Madros, the Malaysia Pavilion also received key Malaysian delegates, including PETRONAS’ Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology, Mazuin Ismail and Executive Director of Planning, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Datuk Hj. Mohd Najib Hj. Mohd.
