MANAGER, STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS

The Strategic Communications – Publications and Media Relations Manager contributes to MPRC’s success by supporting the Head of Strategic Communications in engaging key stakeholders, media, social media and relevant partners to advance the organisation’s standing in local and regional communities

Key responsibilities

External Communications

  • Strategise, and develop communication campaigns (PR, media interviews, industry stories, thought leadership) to support management in conveying key messages that enable the organisation to achieve its vision.

  • Craft and deliver messages in a manner that aligns with communications strategy and objectives when engaging with media and members of the public

  • Develop media engagement strategies and foster media relations to manage media responses

  • Monitor relevant media sources for current and emerging industry, economic, financial, social, and political issues that may impact MPRC’s role or MPRC’s reputation and recommend suitable responses.

Content Development/Publication/Social Media

  • Curate and present engaging content (including digital content) using a variety of engagement platforms such as MPRC website, social media and annual report and relevant publications to support the organisation’s communication efforts and objectives

  • Develop press releases, media statements, media backgrounders, external and internal presentations, senior leadership speeches (CEO and Chairman), spokesperson briefing documents, etc. 

Work closely with Public Engagement and branding unit, and other departments to create relevant communication collaterals including e-newsletters, and other awareness campaigns

Perform any other ad-hoc duties assigned from time to time by the Management/ Head of Department whenever deemed appropriate.

Requirements
  • Local Malaysian with at least a bachelor’s degree related to communications, public relations, marketing business management and other relevant fields with a minimum grade of second class upper.

  • At least five (5) years of experience in corporate communications / external media management and engagement.

  • Strong hands-on experience in stakeholder management and brand strategy; must be a self-starter and takes initiatives.

  • Agency experience and knowledge about oil and gas industry is a bonus.

 

Skills 

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications (including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong storytelling skills and able to engage with various levels of stakeholders.

  • Good command in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin is recommended.

  • Basic/intermediate skills in design/video editing is recommended.

 

Abilities

Writing and Communication Skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia including proof reading. Additional language is an advantage.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to copywrite articles, promotional scripts, social media, and other content reflecting MPRC key messages, features and benefits.

Programme Management and Execution 

  • Meticulous and detail-oriented.

  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects and assignments, whilst adding value to every assigned task.

  • Ability to create communication plans in line with strategy and targets within budgets.

  • Ability to produce or guide vendors in producing materials with the desired visual impact.

  • Prepared to work long and odd hours when needed, under pressure and within tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrate agility in supporting programmes and projects beyond the scope of Strategic Communications.

Miscellaneous

  • Assist the Head of Department/Reporting Manager on preparation and delivery or marketing plan within key objectives.
