Malaysian Oil & Gas Companies Explore Opportunities at Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2018, Houston, Texas

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 MARCH 2018 - Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in collaboration with Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) will be leveraging on Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) held from 30 April to 3 May 2018 at NRG Arena, Houston, Texas, USA, as a platform to further promote Malaysian oil & gas capabilities in the markets of North America and its neighbouring regions.

Malaysia’s total trade with the USA for oil & gas products rose an impressive 32.2% to RM1.83 billion in 2017 as compared to the previous year. Total exports of oil & gas products to USA also grew in tandem, powering ahead by 50.7% to RM767.4 million.

This year’s participation will mark MATRADE’s seventh involvement in OTC Houston. Twelve Malaysian companies including PETRONAS and MISC Berhad are set to showcase their high-quality and innovative products and services to over 70,000 attendees from 100 different countries, expected in attendance at this year’s event. The Malaysia Pavilion’s theme for OTC Houston 2018 is “Choose Malaysia: Your Oil & Gas Partner in Asia”

The Malaysian delegates this year represent various segments of the oil & gas industry, with many offering world-class capabilities in areas such drilling technology, heat recovery equipment, industrial rubber hoses, upstream and downstream services, engineering and process engineering services, feasibility studies and consultancy, transport and logistics, electrical and instrumentation (E&I) services maintenance, manpower services, HSE and environmental consultancy. Last year, Malaysian companies achieved a successful showing at OTC 2017, raking in business leads with an expected value of RM364.22 million.

“OTC Houston is a very special event for Malaysian companies. It is a trade show and conference that attracts a unique mix of Malaysian MNCs and SMEs under one Malaysia Pavilion. The symbiotic relationship and friendly competition is a conducive environment that spurs the industry forward and strengthens their collective positioning at this global event,” said Wan Azhamuddin Jusoh, Deputy Director of Oil & Gas, Chemical and Energy Section, MATRADE.

Apart from participating in the exhibition segment of OTC Houston, Malaysian companies will also be involved in business matching with potential buyers through pre-arranged business meetings organised by MATRADE. There will also be several business presentations and trade talks at the Malaysia Pavilion including briefings to Houston-based MNCs by MIDA Houston and MPRC.

“We facilitate both inbound investments and internationalisation of Malaysia’s OGSE companies as part of the government’s efforts to solidify Malaysia’s position as a dynamic OGSE hub for the Asia Pacific region,” MPRC’s Executive Director and Head of Trade and Investment, Mohd Yazid Ja’afar said.

“MPRC will also promote Oil and Gas Day that will be held in conjunction with the upcoming World Energy Cities Partnership’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Kuala Lumpur, from 16 - 19 October 2018. We aim to make full use of this opportunity to further enhance Malaysia as the primary OGSE gateway to Asia Pacific and beyond,” he added.
